Cloud Computing and the Future
A member of YC recently made a post asking “what do you think is the future of Cloud computing, do you see it as being reliable or not?”
I just thought I’d share my response will all of the lovely readers of my blog, enjoy
.
I absolutely see Cloud Computing as the future, its future. The only thing is, will 99.9% uptime be good enough, looking at the articles I found for a post I made in the “Torrent hosting question” thread, I’m gonna say no. Obviously Amazon’s AWS aren’t the only cloud based services out there, MS is coming out with a whole computing platform based on the “Cloud” concept, and Dell even tried to trademark the name “cloud.” I think the real question is: When was the last time Google was down, and how can we steal their technology and use it to shore up services like AWS? (Hint: Never, and not legally) P.S. Saying Google has never been down is certainly an overstatement, but really, when was the last time you wanted to Google something, and Google wasn’t there?
