The Cult of Done Manifesto

1. There are three states of being. Not knowing, action and completion.
2. Accept that everything is a draft. It helps to get it done.
3. There is no editing stage.
4. Pretending you know what you’re doing is almost the same as knowing what you are doing, so just accept that you know what you’re doing even if you don’t and do it.
5. Banish procrastination. If you wait more than a week to get an idea done, abandon it.
6. The point of being done is not to finish but to get other things done.
7. Once you’re done you can throw it away.
8. Laugh at perfection. It’s boring and keeps you from being done.
9. People without dirty hands are wrong. Doing something makes you right.
10. Failure counts as done. So do mistakes.
11. Destruction is a variant of done.
12. If you have an idea and publish it on the internet, that counts as a ghost of done.
13. Done is the engine of more.

I have switched to the free Firewall and AV combo Comodo Internet Security. So far the experience has been really great, and I think uninstalling AVG has lessened my ‘login to usable’ time by about 30 seconds.

Comodo is really easy to set up and it seems to be rather light-weight. While the firewall prompts are kinda big in size, they are easy to understand and they even tell you what other users have done in similar situations.

In other news, I found a PHP Markdown plugin for WordPress which seems to work rather well, I’ve only used it once in this post, but I plan on using it more in future posts.

So I was finally able to use my boxee invite, and for all the hype, it’s not that great an app…

I fully understand that this is an alpha application, but my overall impression was pretty bad. The first thing that I tried out was the access to Hulu and the integration was pretty terrible. I’m not fully sure if the ‘problems’ are Hulu’s fault or not but in simple terms, the Hulu player controls popped up whenever I used the mouse as well as the boxee control widget. My only other really big complaint was that I couldn’t skip to a time by clicking on the scrubber bar and the fast-forward and rewind buttons were non-functional at best. Also, there were two buttons on the outermost of the play, stop, ff, & rw buttons that also did nothing.

The only other concern that I had was how slow the show/channel thumbnails loaded which became very annoying. (I’m not sure if this was my internet connection, but I doubt it)

Other than those two things, I haven’t noticed anything else that really bugged me. But still, if you get the opportunity to try boxee out definitely seize the opportunity. I personally can’t wait for the beta and windows releases, there’s a lot of room for improvement but I think that they can do it.

I don’t really have much else to say about it for now, but I’m ‘installing’ it to my local http server (xampp) and I’ll be messing around with it as I have time.

Update: I’ve been messing with RC1 and 2.7 has come out, and I’m gonna do the upgrade right now! (Hope I don’t mess this one up)

I posted some pictures to my flickr account. Even though it doesn’t look to great, it runs fine, and it’s a thrill to own a vehicle and see my name on a title.

I absolutely see Cloud Computing as the future, its future. The only thing is, will 99.9% uptime be good enough, looking at the articles I found for a post I made in the “Torrent hosting question” thread, I’m gonna say no. Obviously Amazon’s AWS aren’t the only cloud based services out there, MS is coming out with a whole computing platform based on the “Cloud” concept, and Dell even tried to trademark the name “cloud.” I think the real question is: When was the last time Google was down, and how can we steal their technology and use it to shore up services like AWS? (Hint: Never, and not legally) P.S. Saying Google has never been down is certainly an overstatement, but really, when was the last time you wanted to Google something, and Google wasn’t there?

Step 2: Read this (http://codex.wordpress.org/Upgrading_WordPress), but don’t do anything just read it.

Step 3: Read it again, this time only do the first step. Yup, back it up again.

Step 4: Read the instructions again, then when you get to the end do what it says.

Step 5: Throw a party! As long as you followed the instructions, you should have successfully upgraded WordPress!
